Care and Tank Setup

Lighting: chalices prefer low to moderate light, so start them low in the rockwork or on the sand and move them up slowly if colors fade. Strong light can bleach them. Flow: keep water movement gentle to moderate, enough to stop detritus settling but not so strong that the tissue is pushed around.

Placement: give each chalice room to spread, since many extend sweeper tentacles at night and will sting nearby corals. Mount frags securely with coral glue. Chalices need a stable, established reef with steady alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. Dip new corals before adding them, and target feed small meaty foods once or twice a week for faster growth.

Tank Mates

Chalices sit well with other LPS like the Duncan Coral and Trumpet Coral, and with mushrooms such as the Ricordea Mushroom Coral, as long as each has space. Peaceful reef fish and a cleanup crew round out the system; avoid angelfish and butterflyfish that nip LPS.
