Care and Tank Setup

Add your cleanup crew once the tank has finished cycling and the first algae or diatoms appear. A balanced crew covers every surface: grazing snails work the rock and glass, sand sifters keep the substrate turned, and hermit crabs scavenge in the gaps between rocks.

Drip acclimate the whole crew slowly, since snails and crabs are sensitive to salinity swings, and never use copper in a tank with invertebrates. Glue down loose frags, place snails right side up on the rock, and keep a few empty shells in the tank so hermit crabs can upgrade without bothering your snails. When algae runs low, add a little dried seaweed.
