Care and Tank Setup

Nassarius Snails need a sand bed at least an inch or two deep so they can bury themselves, often leaving only their siphon showing. As they move they turn over the top layer of sand, which helps stop detritus building up. Because they are scavengers rather than algae grazers, they rely on leftovers, so in a lightly fed tank offer a pinch of sinking food now and then.

Drip acclimate them slowly, as with any invertebrate, and never use copper in their aquarium. The Caribbean snails stay smaller, while the Indo-Pacific types are a little larger.

Tank Mates

Nassarius Snails are fully reef safe and fit in with corals, shrimp and peaceful fish. They make a natural team with rock grazers such as the Astraea Snail and the Black Margarita Snail. The Bumblebee Snail is another small scavenger for the sand. Avoid puffers, triggers and other fish that crush snails.
