Care and Tank Setup

Firefish thrive in a 20 gallon or larger reef with live rock that offers small caves and a sand bed to burrow into. They are notorious jumpers, so a fully covered tank or mesh lid is essential. Feed small meaty foods two or three times a day; they pick food from the water column, so slow-sinking foods work best. Keep one per tank, or a confirmed pair, since firefish of the same species may fight. Calm tank mates help them come out and hover in the open.

Tank Mates

Firefish are shy and should be kept with other peaceful fish. Great companions include the Clown Citron Goby, the Blue Spot Watchman Goby and the Royal Gramma in a tank with enough rockwork. Our new Ocellaris Clownfish and Yellow Watchman Goby are also good matches. Avoid aggressive dottybacks, large wrasses and predators like hawkfish and lionfish.
