Care and Tank Setup

Give your watchman goby a deep, soft sand bed of at least 2 inches with a few flat rocks it can dig under. It spends most of the day perched at the mouth of its burrow, so place rubble near the front of the tank where you can enjoy it. Gobies are jumpers, so a tight-fitting lid or mesh screen is a smart addition.

Feed small meaty foods once or twice a day. In a pair, the pistol shrimp keeps the burrow clean while the goby stands guard, a fun natural partnership that works even in a 30 gallon reef.

Tank Mates

This goby gets along with most peaceful reef fish. Good choices include the Royal Gramma, our new Firefish Goby and the Ocellaris Clownfish. Avoid keeping two watchman gobies in a small tank, as they may squabble over burrows. If you want the classic partnership, add a Candy Pistol Shrimp or browse the Blue Spot Watchman Goby for a different look.
