Care and Tank Setup
A 30 gallon tank with plenty of live rock gives this damsel caves to claim and hide in. It accepts almost any food, so feed a varied mix of frozen and dry foods two or three times a day. Stable reef conditions keep its blue color at its best.
The Yellowtail Damsel is reef-safe and will not bother corals, clams or most invertebrates. Like all damsels it can become territorial with age, so add it last or alongside other fish rather than first in a peaceful community.
Tank Mates
Pair this damsel with active, similar-sized fish that can hold their own. Our new Blue Reef Chromis and the Ocellaris Clownfish are popular choices, as are the Royal Gramma and the Green Chromis Damselfish in larger tanks. Avoid very shy or slow fish in a small aquarium, and keep only one damsel species per tank under 55 gallons.
