• Diet: herbivore; nori, macroalgae, spirulina pellets and frozen mysis

Care and Tank Setup

Powder Blue Tangs need a large, mature, well-oxygenated tank with strong flow, lots of swimming room and plenty of live rock to graze. They are sensitive to stress and more prone to marine ich than many tangs, so quarantine is strongly recommended and water quality should stay stable. Feed several times a day with dried seaweed, herbivore pellets and frozen foods to keep them strong. Add this tang to an established system, ideally after peaceful fish have settled in.

Tank Mates

Powder Blues can be aggressive toward other tangs, especially other Acanthurus and similarly colored fish. Good companions include clownfish, the Royal Gramma and peaceful wrasses. Fans of the hybrid may like the Gold Rim Tang, the White Cheek parent species, while the Achilles Tang is another stunning Acanthurus for experienced keepers; mixing them takes a very large tank. In big systems, differently shaped tangs such as our new Purple Tang or Blue Hippo Tang can work when added together.
