Care and Tank Setup

Twig Catfish come from South American rivers with clean, flowing, oxygen-rich water. Add them only to a mature tank with plenty of natural algae and biofilm on driftwood, rocks and plant leaves. Gentle to moderate current, stable temperatures and low nitrates are important, so keep up with regular partial water changes. Supplement grazing with sinking algae wafers and blanched vegetables placed near where the fish rests. Because they are slow, gentle feeders, make sure faster fish are not eating all the food.

Tank Mates

Choose calm, small to medium fish. Schooling tetras like the Cardinal Tetra, peaceful corydoras and fellow grazers like the Otocinclus Algae Eater are ideal. Our new Silver Tip Tetra also fits a peaceful twig catfish tank when kept in a proper school. Avoid aggressive cichlids, fin nippers and large, pushy plecos that compete for food.
