Care and Tank Setup

Native to slow, heavily vegetated waters of the Mekong basin in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, Moonlight Gouramis like calm water, plenty of plants and some floating cover. Like all gouramis they have a labyrinth organ and gulp air from the surface, so leave a small gap under the lid and keep the room air warm. A 30 gallon tank is the minimum for one adult or a pair. Use gentle filtration, soft lighting and a dark substrate to make their silver shine stand out. Feed a varied diet once or twice a day and do regular partial water changes.

Tank Mates

Moonlight Gouramis are gentle and can be timid, so avoid fin nippers and boisterous fish. Great companions include the Pearl Gourami, schools of Harlequin Rasbora and peaceful bottom dwellers like the Panda Cory. Our new Head and Tail Light Tetra and Bristlenose Pleco also suit a calm, planted community.
