Care and Tank Setup
These tetras grow to about 2 inches and do well in a 10 gallon tank or larger, with more space for a big school. They adapt to a wide temperature range of 64 to 82°F, though the middle of that range suits a tropical community best, and a pH of about 6 to 7.8. Add live plants, driftwood and open swimming space in the middle of the tank. Feed a quality flake or micro pellet along with frozen or live daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworms. Keep at least six together, since a larger school shows more natural behavior and better color.
Tank Mates
Head and Tail Light Tetras are peaceful and get along with nearly every small community fish. Great companions include the Cardinal Tetra, the Pristella Tetra, the Panda Cory, livebearers and dwarf gouramis. A Bristlenose Pleco helps with algae, and the active Silver Tip Tetra makes a lively second school. Avoid large cichlids or other predators that could eat small tetras.
