Care and Tank Setup

Bamboo Shrimp need a mature, cycled tank with steady water flow. Place driftwood or rock near the filter outlet so they can perch and fan the current. If you see one picking at the substrate for long periods, it is often a sign that there is not enough food in the water column.

Target feed fine powdered foods near the shrimp a few times a week. Like all invertebrates, it is sensitive to copper, so avoid copper medications.

A healthy Bamboo Shrimp molts every few weeks and leaves behind a complete empty shell, which is normal and a sign of growth. Leave the molt for a day or two, as other invertebrates often graze on it for minerals. Stable water conditions help every molt go smoothly.

Tank Mates

This shrimp is safe with peaceful community fish, snails and other shrimp. It pairs well with the Amano Algae Eating Shrimp, the Red Cherry Shrimp and the Vampire Shrimp, another fan-feeding species. Our new Ramshorn Snail and Thai Micro Crab also make good tank mates. Avoid large cichlids, crayfish and puffers.
