Care and Tank Setup

Bristletooth tangs use comb-like teeth to scrape diatoms and film algae from surfaces, so a mature tank with plenty of live rock is ideal. Provide good flow, open swimming lanes and steady water quality.

Supplement natural grazing with dried seaweed and algae-based foods every day, plus small meaty foods a few times a week. The Tomini is reef-safe and leaves corals and clams alone.

When choosing a size, smaller Tomini Tangs adapt quickly to new tanks and grow into their color, while larger fish give you the full flame fin look right away. Either way, add it to a stable, mature reef rather than a brand new system.

Tank Mates

This tang mixes well with clownfish, gobies, blennies and wrasses. It may chase other bristletooth tangs, so give it a larger tank if you plan more than one tang. Good companions to consider include the Royal Gramma and the Lawnmower Blenny. If you love Ctenochaetus tangs, compare it with the Chevron Tang and Blue Eye Kole Tang, or see our new Scopas Tang and Yellow Tang for larger systems.
