Care and Tank Setup
A 30 gallon tank works for one or a pair, with live rock and stable reef parameters. An anemone is optional. Clarkii will often host a bubble tip, carpet or other anemone, but many also adopt a coral or a rock cave.
Feed two or three small meals a day. Two juveniles will usually pair up, with the larger fish becoming the female.
Captive-bred Clarkii are the easiest choice for beginners, while wild fish, Black Clarkii and Pearl Eye morphs give experienced keepers something different. All of them share the same tough nature and adapt well to a home aquarium, and color can deepen as the fish mature.
Tank Mates
Clarkii can be pushy, so choose tank mates that are not timid. Tangs, wrasses, the Royal Gramma and the Lawnmower Blenny all work well. Keep one clownfish species per tank in most setups.
